MEET OUR STAFF
Rev. Sam Chambers
Sam is a native of West Tennessee. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, he grew up within an hour’s drive of the city. After high school, he attended the University of Memphis where he earned an undergraduate degree in History and a graduate degree in Teaching. He also met his future wife, Melissa while in school, who encouraged him to pursue his interests in theology.
In 2009, Sam and Melissa married and moved to Nashville where he earned a degree in Theology at Vanderbilt University. Prevenient grace intervened in the lives of Sam and Melissa, as a call to ministry overwhelmed the desire to pursue a career in academia. Sam is an avid runner, as well as a reader and contributor to the disciplines of philosophy and theology. He believes that everyone is called to serve God’s kingdom here on earth. He encourages people to engage God and each other in honest reflection and selfless service. Melissa grew up in Indiana before traveling south to play collegiate volleyball and softball for the Memphis Tigers. For the past 6 years, Melissa has taught seventh grade English. She enjoys volleyball, softball, cooking, and gardening.
In 2016, the Chambers celebrated their newest addition to their lives, a daughter, Emma Grace and in 2020, welcomed their second child, Julianna. Sam and Melissa remain grounded to their upbringing in a rural setting through the farm they own in Cottage Grove, TN. The connection to the land, the animals, and the people, informs their ministry and disciplines their faith.
Cyndi moved to the Paducah in 1989 with her husband, Mark, and son, Ben. In 2009 she and her husband sold the family business in Crop Insurance. They now reside in Mayfield, Kentucky, where Mark is a pastor serving two churches.
In June of 2009, she joined the staff here at Lone Oak UMC. Cyndi has a love for God and a heart for ministry. She views her job at Lone Oak UMC as an opportunity to serve God and others and give back some portion of the grace she has received.
