Anita Padgett Music Scholarship Logo

This scholarship is for eligible students whose studies and future career reflect the selfless caring and dedication to music exhibited by Anita Sanderson Padgett. The annual scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2500 by the scholarship committee. Previous recipients may re-apply during subsequent years. The recipient will be asked to share their talent as our guest during worship at Lone Oak UMC.

Anita Padgett served as the volunteer choral director of the Lone Oak United Methodist Church Choir for more than 50 years. She organized and conducted the “Mother Singers” community choir that gave concerts to raise money for scholarships. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and taught piano lessons well into her 90’s. Carrying on the tradition begun by Anita, her family began this scholarship fund in June 2002 as a surprise for her 90th birthday. Annual scholarships have been awarded since 2010. The scholarship fund is supported solely by the donations of her fellow church members, friends, and former students. Anita Padgett passed away in

2010, at the age of 97.
