SCHOLARSHIPS

Anita Padgitt Music Scholarship Logo

PURPOSE

This scholarship is for eligible students whose studies and future career reflect the selfless caring and dedication to music exhibited by Anita Sanderson Padgett. The annual scholarship is awarded in the amount of $2500 by the scholarship committee. Previous recipients may re-apply during subsequent years.

ANITA SANDERSON PADGETT (1912-2010)

Anita Padgett served as the volunteer choral director of the Lone Oak United Methodist Church Choir for more than 50 years. She organized and conducted the “Mother Singers” community choir that gave concerts to raise money for scholarships. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and taught piano lessons well into her 90’s. Carrying on the tradition begun by Anita, her family began this scholarship fund in June 2002 as a surprise for her 90th birthday. Since that time, it has been supported by donations from her fellow church members, friends, and former students. Anita Padgett passed away on January 10, 2010, at the age of 97.
